About GRFR

Non-Profit charitable 501 (c)(3) all volunteer rescue organization

 Our Story

We are Animal Rescuers. We take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning for selection. We are a quiet but determined army, and we are making a difference every day. Nothing is more rewarding than saving a life. No higher recognition than watching them thrive. There is no greater joy than seeing a puppy play, who only days ago, was too weak to eat. By the love of those who we have been privileged to rescue, we have been rescued. We know what unconditional love really is. We have seen it shining in the eyes of so many grateful little souls. We are animal rescuers. Our work is never done. Our homes are never quiet but our hearts are always full.

Founded in 2001, Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue (GRFR) is a nonprofit, charitable 501(c)(3) 100 % unpaid volunteer rescue organization. Our mission is to rescue, foster, rehabilitate and adopt abused, neglected, and unwanted Golden Retrievers and Mixed Breed Dogs to permanent homes. All of our Goldens/Mixed Breeds are currently in foster homes which enables GRFR to better assess the temperament of each Golden/Mixed Breed for matching to the appropriate permanent home and provides prospective owners the opportunity to visit the Golden/Mixed Breed in a non-kennel environment.

Golden Retrievers/Mixed Breeds placed by GRFR are not suited for an outside-only life and require a place in the home that they can identify as their territory. GRFR does our very best to place our Goldens/Mixed Breeds in the best appropriate home environment and several interviews will be held between the prospective owners and GRFR which includes a home visit prior to placement.

We do not place/adopt our dogs outside of Colorado

The Golden Retriever/Mixed Breed lives to satisfy its family. Consequently obedience training is strongly recommended to ensure maximum bonding and the mutual satisfaction of both the Golden/Mixed Breeds and their owners.

Since the moment I met with and spoke to the volunteers from GRFR, I had an amazingly positive experience. After losing my beloved golden, I was really lost. I hadn’t ever applied to a rescue before. I filled out the very thorough application and was contacted within days. (I figured with the popularity of the breed it could be much longer and was fine with that).

It came across very clearly that they were very experienced with the breed and that they put the dogs first. I was so nervous to try and pick another dog. As I went through the rest of the approval process, I learned a lot about the dogs that GRFR takes in…Puppy Mill rescues, kill shelter rescues, strays, golden mixes, owner surrenders. They assured me that my dog would choose me and they were very right.

I have not one issue with their policies and processes. The representatives all have the most important priority as #1, the well being of the dog. That is the kind of rescue I would hope other recues would follow the example of. I would go through the entire process again. As I stated, I trust them, respect them and appreciate what the volunteers do to place these wonderful Goldens!

Even though I don’t have a new fur angel yet, I feel my experience thus far has been great. Within days of applying, I received a phone call interview. Within less than two weeks, I had a home visit; and one day later I received an e-mail saying I was approved. I’ve had one call about a dog that I didn’t feel was the right one. Since then, I’ve e-mailed about one I really would love to have; and each time I have received a reply by the next morning, if not sooner. I feel certain my experience with GRFR will end happily when I am gifted with sweet golden retriever. They love these dogs and are particular about their placement.
