Special Needs

Alexis - 103-10

alexis_103-10-med alexisleg-med

Alexis came to GRFR after having been shot in the left front leg.  This sweet dog was walking on shattered bone.  Wanting to give Alexis the best chance for a normal life, GRFR sent her to the vet for surgery to fix the damage done in her former life.  Things are looking up, but Alexis faces a long road of rehabilitation that starts with complete bed-rest.  She must be carried in and out for potty breaks, and can only stand to relieve herself.  Given proper post-op care, however, she is expected to make a complete recovery.

Having lived in a breeding facility, Alexis was not spayed when she entered GRFR's foster program.  GRFR will provide that surgery as soon as medically advisable, probably about 8 weeks after the surgery on her leg.  She also came to GRFR with a tick-borne disease, Ehrlichiosis.  GRFR has treated that disease and there should not be any complications.

Providing medical care to salvage Alexis's leg was an expensive proposition.  Without the generosity of donors, GRFR would not have the funds to provide this type of medical care.  If you would like to help GRFR pay for Alexis's medical care, please donate using paypal.  You can read more about her in our Available Dogs section.

Daisy 162-10

daisy_1_med

Daisy is a sweet girl who has a spinal problem. We believe she is missing some vertebrae.  She will be seeing a specialist.  We do not yet know whether they will recommend surgery.  At the very least, she needs a program of rehabilitation to allow her to reach her optimal level of activity.

Daisy has figured out how to do stairs at her foster home.  She is too sweet to put down just because she has an abnormality.  You an read more about her on our Available Dogs page.  If you would like to help GRFR provide the care she needs, please donate on her behalf.  If you are looking for a forever friend who will perhaps be a bit less athletic than some of our other dogs, please submit an adoption application

Tulley 163-10

tully_med

Tulley is a wonderful 1 year old male golden retriever.  He is missing part of his paw.  It is believed to be congenital in nature.  GRFR will need to either provide a prosthetic limb, or amputate the leg.  Our preference is the prosthetic, as he will experience less stress on his joints as he ages, and therefore live a longer, happier life.  Allowing him to continue to walk on the stumpy leg will result in deformity, as that leg is shorter than the others.

Both alternatives are expensive.  He's such a joy!  We think he's worth the effort and expense to give him a long and happy life.  If you'd like to help us help him, please consider making a donation on his behalf.
